So, we were at a “home group” tonight, and we were talking about what the cross meant to us. As we were chatting rather randomly, I felt that I really wanted to express that Christianity and Christians as a whole can be, and are cool.
For the secular person, there is this undertone that a Christian is a busy-body cardigan-wearing know-it-all that looks down upon those that don’t believe in God. I want tell you all, that that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Yes, there are a few of those that are out there, I shan’t deny that, but as Christian leadership evolves from the WWII and Baby Boomer generations, to Generation X (I think that is the group that we fall into) and beyond, there is a sense that Christian youth is changing and that in turn is going to change the way people perceive Faith in the Almighty.
We at Perfect Love, want to be an assistant as much as a catalyst for that changing perception. God and your belief in Him, does not need to centre around fire and brimstone, cardigans and anoraks. It can, and will be a belief system that is quite purely centred around Love and the belief that God sent his only son, Jesus to die on the cross for us.
By choosing to buy and wear a T-shirt that says God is Love, Perfect Love, you are sharing your understanding of that. Helping in breaking a belief that if you do anything that is morally wrong, you are going straight to hell. No, you should not deviate to far off the beaten track, because you may lose your way and find it hard to get back, but to make a mistake, or to ‘err’, is to be human, and God Loves us despite ourselves.
We are human, just like everyone else, where we may differ is that we believe that a man, a carpenter, gave his life for all of our sins and indiscretions, because he loved us too much to watch us spiral into the pits of depravity, and we, as Christians, understand and respect that and feel a sacrifice like that is pretty darn cool. Until next time…
